When talking about fruits, protein might not be the first nutrient that comes to mind. However, there are some types of fruit that significantly contain higher protein compared to others, and one of them is avocado. Besides being famous for its healthy fat content, avocado also offers beneficial protein for the body, making it an interesting choice from the group of types of fruit. Including avocado in the daily menu is a smart way to get double nutrients from one delicious type of fruit.
According to data from the Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, in research published in early 2025, avocado showed a higher protein content compared to the average of other fruits. Dr. Tania Putri, M.Gizi., head of the research team, explained in an online nutrition seminar on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, that although the protein in avocado is not as much as animal protein sources, it still contributes significantly to daily protein intake, especially for those on vegetarian or vegan diets. “Avocado is a unique type of fruit because of its healthy fat and quite high protein content,” she said.
Besides protein, avocados are also rich in various other important nutrients, such as fiber, vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, and folate. This combination of nutrients makes avocado an excellent type of fruit for maintaining heart health, aiding digestion, and boosting the immune system. Its smooth texture and creamy taste make avocado easy to consume in various ways, from being eaten directly, made into juice, to being added to salads or sandwiches. As a versatile type of fruit, avocado can be easily integrated into various food menus.
The Head of the Food Quality Control Section of the Central Java Provincial Health Office, Mr. Ir. Bambang Surya, M.Si., while inspecting a fruit market in Semarang on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, emphasized the importance of choosing fresh and quality fruits, including avocados. He reminded the public to pay attention to the physical condition of the fruit and avoid damaged or bruised fruit to get optimal nutritional benefits from the types of fruit consumed.
With a higher protein content compared to other fruits and rich in important nutrients, avocado deserves to be called a special type of fruit. Making avocado part of a healthy diet is a smart step to support overall body health.
